What would I need a server for?

By installing a server you can create a secure system as the existing computers on the network can be configured to check that the user is authorised before allowing access. These settings are all defined on the server making system administration easier.

The server can also be configured to act as a distribution point for microsoft updates ensuring that all of the workstations are fully patched, this also has the added benefit of saving time and bandwidth.
